Appetizers & Sides
We’ve been staying home, working, cooking, cleaning, puzzling, laughing, gardening, and yes, sometimes crying for the last two weeks. And while life is changing, the kitchen continues to provide infinite amounts of comfort. I’ve been cracking open all the cookbooks I’ve been promising myself I’d get to eventually and actually reading them and cooking from them! I’ve also been turning to tried and true recipes from home that utilize all the pantry staples we’ve neglected.
Earlier this year, my friend Sarah Copeland’s beautiful book Every Day is Saturday hit the shelves. It’s filled with so many easy to follow recipes that make weeknight cooking feel like a weekend, or Saturday if you will, cooking. I love the concept of the book—making everyday meals feel as special and fun as a Saturday or Sunday feast.
It's hard to believe that it's been so long. The last time I was here, the year was ending. And now here we are halfway through the new year. Needless to say, we've got lots to catch up on, so please, let's keep the conversation going, 'cause it's official, I'm back in the blogosphere!
It's been a relatively quiet end of the year here on Fix Feast Flair and for that I'm sorry. I've done a terrible job of keeping you up to date on my many fantasy football failings. For the record, I am currently battling for 11th place of 12. So there's that.
Eeeep, I'm back in LA--as in I just got back into town on a redeye 😳! While it's so nice to be home with Moses and Vienna and my bed (with clean sheets, thanks Mo), I am already missing Alaska, the crew: Molly, Kristan, Nik, and Gerry, and all my friends at Copper River Salmon.
Is it really Wednesday because it really feels like Monday. Moses and I took Monday and Tuesday off and treated ourselves to a ridiculously long and wonderful weekend. We puzzled (as in we put together a puzzle), went out on dates, watched movies, and worked a teeny tiny bit.
So far this week, I think I've read about 50, no joke, intros/about this book/how to use this book/tips and tricks/pantry sections/anything else that comes before the recipes in all cookbooks. See, I've got major writer's block. MAJOR.
Hi, remember me? I know it's been a while, so if you forgot about me, I 100% get it. But I'm back and super pumped because for the next month, I'll be sharing all my fave recipes from loads of new Spring/Summer cookbooks!
It’s back to reality for me. After almost two weeks in Hawaii, filled with lots of book research (ok, fine, eating), I’m back in Los Angeles. It feels so good to be back in my kitchen. Apart from the lemon meringue pie I baked for my grandma’s birthday...
Aloha from beautiful Verona! After almost a day of traveling, Moses and I made it to Italy last night and despite waking up at 3 am, we're feeling well rested and ready to hoof it around town. We're here to explore, make pasta with Giovanni Rana...
Is it a faux pas to talk about what you did on Valentine's Day? If it is, I'm sorry in advance. I'm pretty sure this Vday was my all-time favorite. Not because it was fancy, or present-filled, as it was neither. Instead, it was simple and cozy and perfectly us.
Let's talk about the elephant in the room... how does everyone feel about Kevin Durant becoming a Warrior? Are you pumped for Golden State, crushed for the Thunder, or bummed that he didn't go to your team (like, ahhhhem, the Spurs)?
If there's one thing my dad's taught me, it's that you should always save room for the cheese course. I, however, took that and ran with it, and frequently make it the only course. And why not, right? I mean, who doesn't love cheeses, meats, and carbs.
Lately, I’ve felt like the days have been playing on a loop. Since we’ve been spending an unprecedented amount of time at home this year, the days are beginning to blur together. We’ve been spending a lot of time in our garden, in fact, we just started planning our fall planting.
