Holiday Treats

I’ve been thinking about mochi brownies for a while now. Mochi. Brownies. YUM.

There’s a spot on the Big Island (Hawai‘i Island) called Nori’s Samin & Snacks that is known for it’s chocolate mochi cake. It’s a cross between a cake and brownie and, well, mochi.

Hi, it's been a while. I've missed you guys and this space. I'm still here, still alive, and currently back in LA! I've been a little busy, working on this thing called my first cookbook!! Man, nobody told me how much work, scratch that, everyone told me how much work this would be.

Hiii friends! It was something like 95°f yesterday and if today's anything like that, all I want to do is chill by the pool all day. However, I think I'll be inside blasting the ac and listening to the new Haim record on repeat (it's so good and I am utterly obsessed with their Want You Back video)...

Weekend recap: go! First, my dad popped into town for a long layover on Saturday. I made one of his favorite meals, roast chicken, sautéed some giant asparagus spears, and Moses made a heavenly concoction of madeira, cream, and morels.

It feels like a lifetime ago, but we celebrated one of my favorite little guy's first birthday this past weekend. Happy Birthday, Wyatt! And I was lucky enough to be in charge of the smash cake! I panicked for about a minute because I realized I didn't...

I feel like I've been trying to recover from my birthday hangover for the past four days. And what's worse is that I only had five cocktails over the course of two days , a dark chocolate lilikoi birthday cupcake made by Lily, and some butter beer (non-alcoholic)...

Festive update: we strung up some lights and added the mini wreath I made with Lily and Adrianna the other night at Rolling Greens to the mix! I've been "polluting" as Moses puts it, the new Google Home Moses got for his birthday from my mom like it's my job.

DIY sushi parties are so much fun! I grew up making hand rolls with my family and haven't done it in a while, but this year Moses requested a sushi party for his birthday. So we invited a few friends over, got lots of Japanese beer, sake, and really good fish and did it up.

Hope you all had an epic Thanksgiving holiday! I'm hoping you dog showed it up, ate lots of turkey, Black Friday'd or Small Shopped Saturday'd (if you're in that), binged Gilmore Girls, and generally relaxed. And speaking of Gilmore, can we talk about it?

You probably won't believe me, but it actually rained here in LA yesterday, and it was glorious. I got to put on a jacket, bring an umbrella with me on my walk to the watch Fantastic Beasts with Moses, and it even got cold enough to wish that I grabbed something a little heftier.

I had a couple very different posts lined up for this week, but somehow talking traveling to Paris and steam scrambled eggs didn't feel appropriate or important after Tuesday night. I wasn't sure how to talk about anything on Wednesday.
